Scheme will donate 10p to charity for every soft drink they buy
AN ABERDEEN bar is encouraging students to wake up with a clear head and a clear conscience by donating money to charity for every soft drink they buy.
Paramount Bar in the cities Bon Accord Street is handing out wristbands to 4,000 students during Freshers Week as part of a Do not Make Every One a Stiff One campaign.
Between now and the end of 2009, when students show their wristband to staff at Paramount, the bar will donate 10p to the Aberdeen Students Charity Campaign (ASCC) for every soft drink they buy and 5p for every alcoholic drink. The campaign is the idea of Paramount bar manager Sara Anderson. She said: "We are not saying students should not drink, we are just encouraging them to be more responsible with it. By substituting every second drink with a soft one, students can still have a great night out.
"We are running this campaign until the end of the year and hope to raise a considerable amount of money for ASCC, a very worthy local charity that works with organisations in the north-east."
Sandy McKinnon, president for charities at Aberdeen University Students Association, said the team was proud to be working with Paramount.
He added: "I am sure this fundraising campaign will really help to bolster the amount of money we can raise this year."
