North East of Scotland Child Protection Committee
All children in Scotland deserve to be cared for and protected from harm and to grow up in a safe environment in which their rights and needs are respected. Every adult in Scotland has a role in ensuring all our children live safely and can reach their full potential.
Protecting children is much a much wider remit than child protection and we know that to properly safeguard and support children and young people; services, communities and individuals need to come together to embrace joint working ensuring a collaborative approach.
The North East of Scotland Child Protection Committee, NESCPC, covers the three council areas of Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray. Membership of the NESCPC is drawn from representatives of public services and voluntary organisations with a common interest in and with duties and responsibilities to children and young people.
The NESCPC has, as part of its duties, to ensure that there are local inter agency guidelines in place to assist professionals and other interested parties should they have a concern about a child or young person.
The work of the NESCPC is underpinned by principles derived from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, The Children (Scotland) Act 1995 and the Scottish Executive document Protecting Children- A Shared Responsibility.
