World cup revellers in Moray face a driving red card if they are caught over the limit during this summers tournament.
That is the clear message from police as they announced a drink driving clampdown during the World Cup.
The initiative - part of Operation Taurus - will see police in Moray carrying out high visibility patrols before, during and after games. Police said that as part of the crackdown, over 250 drivers have already been stopped and breathalysed in the last week.
Inspector Scott Mann, who is leading the initiative, said that while no positive breath tests have been provided, police are keen to ensure that this remains the case: "Our message, both during the World Cup and throughout the summer, is clear - just do not take the risk.
"If people intend driving, even some hours after drinking, then just one drink could be too much. Put simply - if people want to have a drink they should leave the car at home."
Inspector Mann added: "The summer months are traditionally a time when drink driving detections show an increase. Usually, this is associated with drivers attending barbeques or perhaps going for a drink after work but, this year, we also have the World Cup.
"With these additional patrols there is a very high chance that if you choose to drink and drive you will be stopped and caught.
"That could lead to the loss of your driving licence and your job. Worse still you could kill yourself or some other innocent motorist.
"We also want to reassure the huge majority of other innocent road users that we are doing our utmost to tackle drink driving."
Inspector Mann went on to say that Operation Taurus is hugely resource intensive and would not have been possible without the funding and support of the Moray Alcohol and Drug Partnership.
Sharon Milton, chair of the Moray Alcohol and Drug Partnership, said: "We are delighted to support Operation Taurus. We recognise that the high profile policing that the initiative provides is key to deterring drink drive.
"This will help us reduce drink drive collisions and associated road casualties. We are obviously also keen to assist with the rehabilitation of those who do offend and our association with Grampian Police through Operation Taurus will enhance our ability to do this."
