A Formatted, easy to use "participatory style" training resource pack from which workers can deliver/facilitate training around overdose prevention and intervention.

Main aims:

• To provide the relevant groups with information on risk factors, thereby decreasing the likelihood of them overdosing.
• To provide the relevant groups with basic knowledge and skills to respond effectively if they witness an overdose.

Areas covered during training;

• Identification of main drugs associated with overdose
• Effects on the body of these drugs
• Key risk factors for accidental overdose
• High risk times for overdose
• Observable signs/symptoms of drugs overdose
• Common myths, dangerous practices and important facts around managing an overdose
• Emergency First Aid/Basic Life Support Skills Training

About this event

                                     Older People and Substance Misuse
                                         29th September 2010, Glasgow


This conference will address the growing issue of substance misuse by older people. It will provide delegates with an overview of the current trends of substance misuse amongst older people and the issues involved in working with them, including perspectives from the health, social care and voluntary sectors.  The conference will be of interest to anyone working with older people in any capacity and will allow for discussion and information exchange on this important issue.
