Turning Point Scotland is a charity registered in Scotland. It tackles social exclusion by developing individual care packages for people with learning disabilities, mental health support needs and people who need support because of thier drug or alcohol misuse. These people are among the most marginalised and vulnerable in society.
Background
Our organisation has been working in social care in Scotland since 1993 as the Scottish arm of Turning Point, a charity based in London. Due to the changes in social care in scotland and the formation of the new Scottish Parliment, we took the decision to devolve from the parent charity and in April 1999 we registered as a Scottish Charity in our own right, hence Turning Point Scotland.
Growth
At the time we had a turnover of £3.5M. Our financial year to March 2006 saw that figure increase to £31M, a figure which is set to grow again.
Since April 19999 the number of our projects has increased from 14 to 42 and we have project representation in virtually every region of Scotland.
Funding
The vast majority of our funding (the money that pays for service care/support and staff salaries) comes from statutory sources through Local Authorities, Health Boards and the Scottish Office, giving us a greater stability. Fundraised income therefore goes directly to the benfit of the people who use our service.
